Meet Guide Kiki
Kiki’s journey to becoming a Bangkok tour guide began with a desire for change and flexibility. After spending six years in hospitality, she wanted something different while maintaining control over her work schedule. Therefore, becoming a tour guide was the perfect solution. In 2017, she completed her tour guide training and has been leading tours tours ever since.
Originally from Nakhon Ratchasima, Kiki moved to Bangkok when she was just 15 years old. She has the unique perspective of both an insider and someone who chose to make Bangkok her home. This background gives her deep appreciation for the city’s culture and traditions.
Kiki’s Tour Specialties
Food and Culture Tours
Kiki’s passion lies in food and culture tours. She loves sharing stories about local restaurants and family businesses. For example, she tells visitors about families who have survived five generations in business, giving guests insight into Bangkok’s rich commercial heritage.
Additionally, Kiki often takes guests to Wang Lang Market, her favorite spot for street food. Here, she shares not just where to eat, but the history behind each dish and vendor.
A Female Guide’s Perspective
Understanding Different Guests
Being a woman definitely changes how Kiki interacts with her guests. She’s noticed how men and women have different interests, which affects conversations during tours. She easily adapts her approach based on who she’s guiding.
However, Kiki has never faced bias because of her gender. She finds that sometimes being female gives her slight advantages, though the differences aren’t always obvious.
Unique Cultural Insights
Kiki believes female guides bring a different perspective to the job. For instance, most Thai men train to be monks, which gives them certain knowledge about temple history. Meanwhile, female guides like Kiki offer different or diverse cultural insights and storytelling approaches.
Memorable Moments and Challenges
An Unforgettable Experience
On March 28, 2025, Kiki faced one of her most challenging moments. A big earthquake hit Bangkok while she was guiding a couple from Texas. The wife became scared and paniced.
Although Kiki was also frightened, she knew she couldn’t show fear to her guests. As a tour guide, she had to lead them safely back to their hotel. Fortunately, the husband remained calm during the earthquake, helping the situation.
Daily Challenges
The most physically demanding part of Kiki’s job involves lots of walking. Additionally, Bangkok’s traffic and hot weather create the more stressful aspects of guiding tours.
Kiki notices that weather often creates misconceptions for tourists. Many visitors aren’t sure about Thailand’s seasons, which affects their expectations and preparations.
Growing Through Guiding
Being a tour guide has helped Kiki grow both personally and professionally. She continuously learns about new cultures while meeting people from different countries. Furthermore, guiding tours has significantly improved her English skills.
Adapting to Different Guests
Kiki always asks guests about their interests first. She believes this is the most important step in creating a good tour experience. Learning about guests’ home cultures helps her manage groups more effectively.
Industry Insights
Kiki has observed some differences in how tour companies treat male and female guides. For example, some overnight trips outside Bangkok prefer male guides for safety reasons. However, this doesn’t limit her opportunities within Bangkok itself.
Advice for Future Female Guides
Kiki’s advice to women considering becoming tour guides is straightforward: “Make sure you keep yourself fit physically and mentally.” She believes the most important skills for success are language abilities and historical knowledge.

Courteney’s day in Bangkok with Kiki was all about efficiency, fun, and those little extras that make a private tour worth it. Starting with the temples early meant cooler weather, fewer crowds, and more time to explore. From there, it was a smooth flow through the flower market, a shopping mall break for great food and air-conditioning, and even some personal shopping help from Kiki herself.
Travel was an adventure in itself—water taxi, motorbikes, tuk-tuk, and the comfort of an air-conditioned taxi. Even though Courteney was traveling solo, Kiki’s company, local knowledge, and thoughtful pacing made it feel like a day spent with a good friend who just happens to know all the best spots and shortcuts in the city.
